The set came first. Strong colors, moving lights, a game show vision. There was no preconceived project plan. When I started casting characters, a concept formed. After shooting a large amount of still photography a story appeared.

As I researched the game show genre, looking at stills from shows past and present I found that the sterile glamour of the sets contrasted dynamically with the tears, screams, and wails of contestants who popped next to the flashing numbers, twirling prizes and bells and buzzers. The participants are herded into states of hysteria as automobiles and appliances appear from behind flashy curtains and doors. When I started to see the contestants motivations, greed, excitement, fear, disappointment, and embarrassment, that’s when I found the project's story. The Host, Announcer, and Hostess, as sterile as the game they represent, act as a foil, their voice, that of the show's business. They are naturally at odds with the contestants primal desires.

My project is a soap opera that takes place on a game show. It addresses the dynamics of consumer lust and petty greed and a corporate need to exploit that lust.
